Hygge (pronounced "hoo-guh") is a Danish word used to describe the feeling of coziness and contentment. As the evenings begin to get longer, and the temperature begins to drop, the Hygge feeling is much more prominent and necessary in our homes. Hygge is all about creating warmth in your home and in your heart.
November has come and we at Hygge Home think we are not the only ones who love Autumn, but are also eagerly anticipating the upcoming holiday season! Thinking about this cooler season, always brings pleasant thoughts of indulging in small pleasures - the little thinks that make us smile. The enjoyment of the darker evenings. The refreshing feeling of the cool crisp mornings. As Hygge is a feeling of coziness that we love so much, here are our suggestions on how to make this Autumn as Hygge as possible!
Take a Walk
Autumn is a magical season. Don't believe us? Take a look at the natural changes taking place outdoors. The reds, oranges, browns and yellows of the trees. The crunch of the fallen leaves under your feet. Autumn is the perfect time to take a walk outside. It will reconnect you with nature and bring a freshness to your day. Plus if it is cool and crisp out, nothing is cozier than bundling up in a nice warm sweater & scarf!
Hot Chocolate, Please
We notice that the colder months have arrived when the kettle begins to work overtime. Make your favorite hot drink, whether it is coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, it will be sure to put a smile on your face. It is the time to create a hot drink station, with your favorite selection of hot drinks to warm up your senses.
It's Time for DIY Projects
Autumn is the perfect time to get started or continue a DIY project. Take inspiration from the beautiful changes taking place outdoors, and take advantage of the longer evenings spent indoors. From painting to embroidery, candles to holiday decorations, the possibilities are endless.
Enjoy Some Me-Time
Me-time is so important. It is about doing exactly what you want. What could be better than having some beloved me-time on a cool fall evening in your cozy home? Hygge can be fully enjoyed on your own, by snuggling in a comfy chair with your favorite book, by journaling with cookies and hot chocolate within easy reach, or by simply taking a quick nap under a warm blanket.
An Hour Without Your Phone
Hygge is about slowing down, living in the moment and enjoying the simple pleasures of your daily routine. Relax your mind and take time to read a book or listen to some of your favorite music. Try to unplug and put aside your mobile phone. Focus on what and who is in the room with you at the present moment.
